In honor of Earth Day
With a special tribute to the 100 year old Cottonwood Tree on Poplar St. in La Veta that was cut down last fall.
The Town of La Veta was designated
a Tree City USA® 27 years ago.
Cottonwoods have been planted in the town since the 1880s, before arborists designated female (cottonbearing) and male varieties. Many did not survive, but there a quite a few very old cottonwoods scattered around La Veta. For a few days every year, La Veta sees a storm of cotton in the air as they spread their seeds.
