2015 La Veta Art and Garden Tour

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

This multi-day event has something for everyone – Art, Gardens, Fiber Demonstrations, Classes and Food – to inspire your creative and culinary experience.

 THURSDAY, JULY 30th

9:00am-Noon               Backyard Homesteading is a 3-hour class on building a small organic homestead taught by Kristina Heim, La Veta’s farm-to-table expert, on her Cucharas River Farms homestead.                   Location: 317 W. Virginia St.                 Cost: Donation accepted

 3:00pm-6:00pm            Farmer’s Market Food Stand and Live Music 

                                         Location: Library Courtyard, 310 S. Main St.

7:00pm-8:30pm            Jane Shellenberger, Editor of the Colorado Gardener and author of Organic Gardener’s Companion: Growing Vegetables in the West.  

                                         Location and Sponsor: La Veta Library, 310 Main St.     Cost: Free

FRIDAY, JULY 31st

9:30am-2:00pm            Pick up your FREE TOUR MAP at the La Veta Art and Garden Tour Welcome Center.                            Location:  Francisco Crossing, 300 So. Main St.

Artist Studios and Galleries will be open July 31st and August 1st to showcase local artists, artisans and galleries. Artists will demonstrate how their art is made and provide opportunities for you to purchase their original work, including fiber, jewelry, batik, paintings and more. Start wherever you like and travel freely to any or all stops on your own time schedule and at your own pace. Tour Stops will be open from 10:00am-4:00pm on both days.

10:00am-11:30am         Create Beautiful Flower Arrangements with Liz Henson. Learn how to use flowers from your garden to create interesting and fun floral arrangements. Learn how to “think outside of the  box” by using found objects, twigs and unusual vases in your creations.

10:00am-4:00pm           Artists at the Crossing will demonstrate how their art is made on July 31st & Aug. 1st.                                             Location:  300 S. Main St.                    Cost: Free

11:30am-2:00pm           Lunch at the Town Park Pavilion Boxed Lunches made with organic local ingredients will be sold by the Ryus Avenue Bakery and Farm-to-Table Cafe.

SPECIAL EVENT   JUDITH BAKER MONTANO’S GARDEN AND STUDIO

3:00pm-5:00pm            Judith Baker Montano’s Garden and Studio will be open for one private tour per day on July 31st and August 1st. Judith is a world-renowned fiber artist, author and teacher who uses fabrics, vibrant color combinations, embroidery, beading and punch needle to create her original works that express her unique style. Space is limited to 20 people per tour. Tickets can be purchased by calling Kate McCabe at (303) 746-8323.

 SATURDAY, AUGUST 1st

9:30am-2:00pm            Pick up your FREE TOUR MAP at the La Veta Art and Garden Tour Welcome Center.                                         Location:  Francisco Crossing, 300 So. Main St.

Private Gardens will be open on August 1st only to showcase a variety of spaces from  containers to mixed perennial and vegetable gardens. All of the gardens show the creativity of the garden artists and the joy they receive from caring for their outdoor natural spaces.

Artist Studios and Galleries will be open a second day to showcase local artists, artisans and galleries. Artists will demonstrate how their art is made as well as provide opportunities to purchase original art, including fiber, jewelry, batik, paintings and much more.

 Start wherever you like and travel freely to any or all stops on your own time schedule and at your own pace. Tour Stops will be open from 10:00am-4:00pm.

10:00am-3:00pm           Attend the Fiber Fiesta at the historic Francisco Fort Museum! Watch demonstrations, fiber artisans, historical skills of creating art and useful items from all kinds of fiber! From traditional dyeing techniques to rope making, come experience a slice of history in the 153 year old adobe plaza!                                Location:  306 So. 6:00pm-8:00pm            Farm-to-Table Dinner will be offered by the Ryus Avenue Bakery and Farm-to-Table Cafe as a fund raiser for the Wahatoya Community Initiatives. Tickets will go on sale at the Bakery starting on July 17th . Space is limited so get your tickets early.
