The Francisco Fort Museum, the Francisco Center for the Performing Arts, and the La Veta School of the Arts In December 2011, four local galleries joined together to raise funds for community arts by holding a progressive Tapas Party. The weather prevented many folks from attending, but those who did had a wonderful evening. Funds were distributed between the La Veta School of the Arts, Fridays for Fun children's program and SPACe's Children's Art Workshop. Part of the funds raised will be used to pay for state highway signs on US Hwy 160, advertising Fine Art Galleries in La Veta. Each of the other four National Finalists will win a $5,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to New York City for the final awards ceremony on May 22nd, 2013, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it.
Yul already received his t-shirt at the event at La Veta High School May 1 announcing that he is the Colorado finalist. On hand were representatives from Google who impressed the crowd of students and adults with all the amazing information that can be accessed through Google apps. Regardless of whether he wins further, he will have his doodle displayed in a special exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, will travel to NYC for the award ceremony May 22, and receives a Wacom digital design tablet. Unlike the Lucerne Dairy contest, you can only vote once (on the same computer) and voting ends May 10.
La Veta High School senior Yul Jorgensen was chosen as one of nine finalists in the annual national Art of Dairy Art Contest. Yul painted the 3D life size statue of a cow from his winning design. It is quite exciting to have a local student chosen as a finalist. For more information about the contest click on the cow above. The school representing the Grand Finalist winner will receive $20,000. For a complete list of all the possible prizes click here This is a national contest, so VOTE and tell all your friends to vote, too, beginning April 17.
